Citabria & Decathlon numbers

Unread post by Cherokee6 »

Does anyone know how many Citabria / Decathlon we have in SA? I know they are quite sought-after, to the extent that people suggest importing them, but how many are in the country already?

The link below (courtesy of richoakley) lets you search the CAA database - very cool. I see 22 aircraft listed under Bellanca and 8 under American Champion, giving 30 in total. 11 of those are Decathlons & Super Decathlons (search for 8KCAB).

But how many of them are actually airworthy, I wonder...and then there are also a few that were re-built and re-named, like the "Airbatic".

The numbers are small enough to approach the owners and validate the current database... mine ZS-ONU (7GCBC) serviceable... a friend's (8KCAB) ZS-CCG serviceable. Both aircraft home field at Morningstar.

Agreed. My 8KCAB is ZS-SUC. Also at Morningstar.

As for your ONU, Boytjie, I think "serviceable" is an understatement. It's pristine! =D>

Now we're talking!
