Jab 3300 runs on 5 cylinders after standing for a week

Unread post by JontyL »

Any body know what would cause my jab 3300's cylinder no:5 to not fire when started after a weeks rest. If revs increased to 1700 rpm no:5 egt comes alive and runs normally. Then runs normally for that flight. The issue returns after the next weeks rest. Not related to the mags. I thought it might be sticky valves. Has anyone had a similar problem. What's the solution?

Hi,

could it be that the mixture is running rich on your engine in that particular cylinder and that its plug fouling that causes this?

I know the Jabi has got a single Bing carb which is partially altitude compensating and without a mixture control, but could it be that it is running very rich for some reason?

Are you flying avgas or mogas?

Could be a sticky valve. I would eliminate plugs and leads first . Could be moisture in the dizzy , remove and clean . If all else fails do a blow by on that cylinder

Hi JontyL

I have the exact same problem, same cylinder etc.

Have you found a solution?

Hi Aerosan.
Was told it was a sticky hydraulic lifter and It should correct itself. The day I took it for a blow by test It was gone and fixed itself. Hasn't happened again. Blowbys are all 100%
