Re: Carrying Capacity SP 120
Hi,
In your case it would be 470 - (317 + 49) = 104 kg usefull load. My Jabiru SP weighs 270 kg empty, with a 85l tank. That leaves me with 470 - (270 + 65) = 135kg usefull load.
Regards,
Eugene

Re: Carrying Capacity SP 120
Hi Eugene,
Thanks for the reply
I weigh 100kg so does that mean I should only carry 4kg of luggage
Is the 49kg for the 65l of fuel.y
On one flight I carried a110 kg passenger and we got out of a1000m runway at 4300' quite easily
So if I fly according to the book I really only have a single seater
What would make your Jabiru 47 kgs lighter than mine
Regards
Foxdog

Re: Carrying Capacity SP 120
Hi Foxdog,
The 49 kg represents 65L of fuel at 0.75kg/l. I have checked my notes and think it should actually be 0.72kg/l, 46.8kg then. I think the equipment fitted to the aircraft might make a difference in weight. Mine is fitted with two MGL EFIS unit and mechanical Alti + ASI. C.o.G determination done on my aircraft in 2002 indicate the total weight to be 255.5kg. That was long before I bought the aircraft. The most recent C.o.G calculation done in 2014 indicates the total weight as 270kg. Not sure what happened in between.
The Jabiru SA website lists the MTOW of the Jabiru SP120 as 500kg. ( http://www.jabiru.co.za/images/SP120specs2.gif)

Re: Carrying Capacity SP 120
It appears that you are type rated. If so, you should know the fundamentals like weight and balance. If this aspect was missed in your conversion/differences course, what else has been missed ?!foxdog wrote:Hi Eugene,

Re: Carrying Capacity SP 120
Jabiru.... a lot of aircraft for what you pay... especially the 2 seaters.
BUT be careful of load. It is a road runner. The upside is that a higher
wingloading is more stable in rough air than most LSA's.

Foxdog, ontspan en gebruik jou commen sense jou SP sal sorg vir die res. Meer gemaklik in turbulensie as 'n Sling(eina... Ek voel al die klippe) en die "House Ghost" met hoogte vrees weet die Kit Fox is nog in kit form(eina!)

Re: Carrying Capacity SP 120
I suggest you contact the factory and query the MAUW.
I presume you fly with an LSA license?
MAUW for LSA is restricted to 600kg.
We often flew the factory 120 with 2 fat guys

Re: Carrying Capacity SP 120
MY UL-120 was rated at 600kgs MAUW. I'm not sure about the SP-120 with its shorter wings The old SP's were 450 & 470 kgs but not the 120"s as far as I know. Take Ben's advise, call the factory.
Cheers,
Don.

Re: Carrying Capacity SP 120
The manual says 600kg ...... I have owned one for a few years now, the factory will confirm. The 450kg limit comes from the micro light days when 450kg was the maximum all up weight. How they got an SP into that weight limit beats me..
The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Re: Carrying Capacity SP 120
What is in the approved owners manual for the specific aircraft, is what the legal limit is. So if his owner's manual says 470kg, then 470kg is the maximum allowable.Hawkeye wrote:The manual says 600kg ...... I have owned one for a few years now, the factory will confirm. It is likely just a paperwork exercise to increase this though - best to speak to the factory and see what can be done.

Re: Carrying Capacity SP 120
I am the happy owner of the first Jab in the country, ZU JAB, a SP. The POH clearly states max operating weight
to be 470kg. Incidentally JAB weighs 262kg empty. Some later SP's were certified for 500kg.
Most planes will easily carry more than their certified weight, but that does not make it legal.
As per previous posts, best is to chat to the factory.
