Buying direct from DJI
Has anyone bought direct from DJI? Do they ship to South Africa? I see they have a great special on that is much cheaper than anything in SA but worry about customs etc. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

No I have not. But I only have positive things to say about Droneworld in Seapoint.
You will need software / hardware support, you will need telephonic advice, you will need spares. Whilst I have no reason to believe that Droneworld would not assist you if you had purchased a Dji product direct, I value the relationship I have with their technical staff.
Yes, I too would have concern for Customs charges.
The one and only problem I have with Droneworld is trying to find parking within a kilometer of their Offices!

Re: Buying direct from DJI
Hi,
If you were to buy from DJI in states you would have issues locally if you wanted to register your drone with CAA.
The frequency output is different and thus it will not be certified by ICASA. I also believe the warranty would not be maintained in SA and the device would need to be shipped back to wherever purchased should there be a warranty claim.
I suggest contacting Action Gear to discuss further, they are extremely helpful in this regard & it may be worth the extra bucks to buy locally.
All the best

Re: Buying direct from DJI
The biggest issue for me is its cheaper to buy from EU (where same legal spec as za) or USA (differing spec) than to buy locally ad thats after you add shiping, VAT and Duties
That is Sad for me. Because the stores in EU and USA are making their cut as well as still cheaper.
So feels like the locals are milking it big time.
Also we found if you looking at the more industrial DJI products and not the consumer there is no stock locally and they order in as you would anyhow.
We order from USA and EU and its still cheaper to return it if broken or issues under warranty than buying locally (and i don't believe the locals repair locally either)

Re: Buying direct from DJI
Droneworld one of the better suppliers in SA. Friend of mine has his drone serviced and repaired in their Jhb branch. They seem to carry some spares and are quite reliable. I haven't had to repair my DJI Phantom 3 Pro yet, but will not hesitate to send to them.
