2. commercial usage
3. 95% chance its in city so 10km from airport etc

I agree, also to be noted the presenters young son has been using RPAS illegally and unsafely for years and has been warned many times but still continues to do so.

Re: Springboks using drones illegally?
My question...
Here is an example, the ABSA thing was an example and anywhere on social media there are 1000's of examples of broken laws...
Here in KZN yesterday a dead whale was filmed by countless number of drones between Umdloti through down to Umhlanga Pier, the news channels grabbed the footage and ran with it as well. I should mention if you are not aware, however this entire section of coast mentioned is just off to the side of King Shaka airport and approaching the "final approach" for Virginia airport when it comes to the Umhlanga Pier.
Yet, none of the "professional photographers" with drones are being taken to task for their activities.
So now the question; should this be alright and should everyone just follow suite because nothing has ever, or seemingly will ever happen to these "professionals."

YUP
CAA to busy harassing legal ROC operators and making their lives hell.
So CAA has no time to enforce the illegals (which is actually where 99% of the drone risks come from) because they are busy making drones "safe" by riding the hell our of the Legal operators.
Best suggestion, get the people details and lay charges at the SAPS.
SAP then force CAA to investigate before docket can be closed.
Last resort since the system is broken and CAA is obsessing over pointless things and ignoring the real issues.
AND OR report the drone details with as much into to CAA to:
Luvuyo Silandela
Senior Legal Advisor: Enforcement & Exemptions
Legal and Aviation Compliance
Tel: 011 545 1000 | Cell: 083 461 6139
Email: SilandelaL@caa.co.za | www.caa.co.za
Give them a deadline to investigate and give feedback.
When they fail to (and this is nearly guaranteed)
Submit formal complaint against enforcement dept (cc enforcement on the complaint) for failure to do their job and submit it to, Poppy Khoza Director of Civil Aviation.
Its time we stand and put our foot down on this Apathy at CAA and escalate to the top
and when the Top ignores if we escalate to ICAO as CAA is failing to secure the skies.

Re: Springboks using drones illegally?
Remember when you report give them as much evidence as possible and as much details on the person.
So you spoon feed them then they cant say they had to find info or investigate or any other BS excuse they serve up since you have done all the work for them.
This way when you escalate it you don't look like an <<moderated - language>> but the dept failing to follow the complaint that's gift wrapped for them do.

Re: Springboks using drones illegally?
The real problem is that the legislation is ridiculous and totally over the top!
What can be seen in that video it is the fantastic use of available technology.
If the same draconian laws were applied to general aviation in its infancy we would never have the advancements we have today.

Re: Springboks using drones illegally?
Its not the laws that the problem its South Africa's lawless culture where people think they are above the law because they don't like the laws.
Reality is law is the law. If we like it or not its LAW and we have to respect and follow it.
Its the new "culture" of being above the law in ZA is why we becoming a lawless state where no one respects anything, one or the law.
The reality is 101 is responsibly written, but p...s poorly executed.
As i have said before, how would you react if a loved one was killed in a plane crash caused by a drone? Everyone would be outraged nothing was done to prevent it.
The law is there to prevent cowboys flying dones without quality control.
But the law only works if we respect the law. Otherwise we are not different to criminals out there who ignore the law and do as they wish.

Re: Springboks using drones illegally?
Sorry i totally disagree, Drone laws in South Africa As has been discussed infinitely on avcom is shooting the industry in the foot due to too many reasons already discussed countless of times, how can the rules be executed when they dissallow operations to take place to begin with !!! Absolutely ludicrous !!!, This Circus administration Only fattening the coffers of the well connected and those who can afford to grease certain palms.edwoodza wrote: Tue Nov 06, 2018 11:56 am Its not the laws that the problem its South Africa's lawless culture where people think they are above the law because they don't like the laws.
