Used Oil cooler oil

Unread post by leslloyd »

Hi all, just loosened the bottom rocker cover screws (6/3300) and out came some pretty black oil,now the oil was changed only 5 hours previously so i was a little concerned.I got to thinking, what happens with the oil in the tubes/oil cooler when we change or drop the engine oil from the sump?Does it stay there to only be mixed in with the new fresh oil and so dirty it? New to Jabs.

The oil in the oil cooler is not drained during a routine oil change, the oil cooler sits below and is separate from the sump therefore when the sump is drained and the oil filter is changed the old oil in the oil cooler & oil cooler pipes remains and consequently will be mixed with the new oil when starting the engine after the oil change.

Cheers, Don.
