Like Button

After much demand we have finally installed a like button. It is still a little experimental and may change from time to time whilst we tweek the settings. We also hope that it will be used in the correct fashion. If we find it is not working and achieving our objectives we may reconsider its's usefulness.

You will find the like button at the top right of any post.

Other than giving a like counter, a topic also receives a rating based upon the number of likes. The way in which the rating is calculated is:

• Post rating = like of this post / max number of likes in any post
• Topic score = likes of this thread / max number of likes in any thread

The list of likes on a post will also only reflect the first X (currently 20) persons that have liked your post, but the counter will continue to increase past that number.

And just in case - no, you cannot like your own post

Rogèr, don't you think listing names will cause a bit of "clutter" on the page? It does make it a tad busy.

Unfortunately the mod has to list at least 1 user to show the block including the number of likes.

The other forums I reviewed all list a good number of users that have liked a post. Clearly over the next few days, it may be a novelty, but think when settles, it is not likely every post will carry likes. Perhaps even less than 1 post per page.

Will see how we go, and if need be, will delve into the code to see if can tidy it up a bit if the screen real estate takes a beating.

People do not like me in real life so I will need a dislike button to not feel left out.

For those that place any reliance into statistics, it is also worthwhile to note the posters profile that is displayed on the left of every post, includes how many likes a poster has received and also how many likes that person has given.

You can click on either of those counters to see the actual posts.

For those that have or will receive likes, you will receive a notification in your notification area. If you choose not to see these, they may be turned off (or back on) through your user control panel as explained here: Tips & Tricks #5: Notification Management
