Airline fleet changes
I vote that we list all changes to the fleets of airlines within South Africa here, kinda like how this topic on additions to the FlySafair 737-800 fleet worked.
Anyway, I'll start this off by saying the last thing posted there: ZS-ZWO is now with SFR:

Re: Airline fleet changes
Rather call it additions? Fleet change would suggest operating another type/ manufacturer. Lekker thread though!Airplaneguy9 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 23, 2021 11:18 am I vote that we list all changes to the fleets of airlines within South Africa here, kinda like how this topic on additions to the FlySafair 737-800 fleet worked.

Re: Airline fleet changes
To my knowledge they have also acquired a few from Mango.

Re: Airline fleet changes
Was this photo taken at SAA Tech or Safair Tech? Which A340(?) is in the shot and what happened to the area around the door?

Re: Airline fleet changes
That must burn government's rear end nicely - some of their "fleet" heading off to be operated by the private competitors

Re: Airline fleet changes
I am let to believe that it was an end of lease return as these were originally leased from SAFAIR even before they started operating FLYSAFAIR.
Just what I heard, could be wrong!

Re: Airline fleet changes
Maybe ....just ....maybe SAFAIR was playing the long game here, finance the aircraft on behalf of SAA/Mango, get them back after end of lease nicely serviced and probably all paid for, so no leasing costs just operational costs and you have a pretty decent 737-800, so now they can get rid of the -400's, and soon have a fleet similar to Comair.

Re: Airline fleet changes
They pretty much already do!! 21 737's, 6 -400's and the rest 800's. Comair as a whole have around 23. But that was pre business rescue, and I think a few will be/have already been returned to lessors.marius scheepers wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 2:24 pm Maybe ....just ....maybe SAFAIR was playing the long game here, finance the aircraft on behalf of SAA/Mango, get them back after end of lease nicely serviced and probably all paid for, so no leasing costs just operational costs and you have a pretty decent 737-800, so now they can get rid of the -400's, and soon have a fleet similar to Comair.
ZS-SJR, S, T, U, V are all Safair/ASL owned, that were originally leased to SAA and then some to Mango then moved to FlySafair. ZS-SJG,H, K are owned by third parties. Carlyle Aviation Partners and Macquarie AirFinance are what I can see online.

Re: Airline fleet changes
SJK also heading off to Safair according to planespotters.net (edit: already stated 30 seconds before I posted, dang ). I swear Safair is going to own every 737-800 in existence at this point.
What's ZWT doing in the background of the SJG pic? Or is that ZWO pre-painting?

Re: Airline fleet changes
I also intended the thread to post any aircraft that are leaving fleets as well, maybe I'll change it to additionsCaravan Driver wrote: ↑Mon Aug 23, 2021 10:01 pm Rather call it additions? Fleet change would suggest operating another type/ manufacturer. Lekker thread though!
Are SJW and the FG's just normal second-hand aircraft that were bought as well?Burner wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 2:56 pm They pretty much already do!! 21 737's, 6 -400's and the rest 800's. Yes, that's what I can see. They come from a mixture of leasing companies. Carlyle, Aircastle, and Avolon.Airplaneguy9 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 2:59 pmI also intended the thread to post any aircraft that are leaving fleets as well, maybe I'll change it to additionsCaravan Driver wrote: ↑Mon Aug 23, 2021 10:01 pm Rather call it additions? Interesting that ZS-FGA is their oldest 738-800... and it's basically the identical age as their youngest 737-400 ZS-JRM. Their first flights were only 2 days apart at Renton!

Re: Airline fleet changes
Taken by a friend at SAAT. That could be the old Air Zim A320 that's been lying at SAAT forever.
