Any ideas what bird they moving now for Safair ?
Another new Airframe for the fleet or just a old one for maintenance ?

Can anyone at Safair (I assume that is the new operator) describe the logic to deregister ZS-ZWH from SACAA, put it on the N register, fly it to some dodgy South American AMO for an inspection with FAA sign off, then return the asset to sunny Souf Efrica and put it back on the SACAA register....

The aircraft doesn't belong to Safair, but most likely to the American based lessor AELF who were helped by Investec Bank to secure international funding to purchase several aircraft earlier this year.

Being sold to an American company they would want to export it out of South Africa for atleast the minimum period required by SARS and the Reserve bank to make sure its not seen as SA property.

They will then lease the aircraft to Safair when it is ready and the airframe would remain foreign property.

The maintenance facility used would be a discussion between owner and lessor and not solely up to Safair.
Regardless of the ownership thing requiring export, how many slots are available for C Checks and full repaints in SA to accommodate the pace required by Safair ( 3rd plane in a few months to do this)



Why is the AMO dodgy ?
Its owned by the Ecuador AIr Force and many of their senior techs were trained by SA to look after the Cheetahs they bought.
Maybe they even giving a discount since Paramount is selling equipment to the Government there.
Also a lot of money being spent by SA investment banks in the country there the last few years setting up major industries.

'SZH A320 first in service today on SA359 to CPT and back. Was using old hex from Comair ZS-OAR so didn't notice it initially :o . Changed now :D .

SAA also put A340-300 ZS-SXD back into service yesterday. First flights were between JNB and CPT

A 3rd wet-leased B738 from Sun Express, TC-SPR, arrived in JNB on 27 November and did its first flights for SAA the following day

Airlink’s E195 ZS-YDB is no longer in the hybrid Belavia/Airlink scheme. Now in full Airlink colours
