Was playing as WSO in the Strike Eagle last night. We did a refresher on NTTR at Nevada. Forgot to start the recording when we dropped some laser guided bombs and engaged 2 J11's. Here is the refueling and low level back to Nellis.

"Putting the thing in the thing" is probably the most difficult thing to do in DCS

Operation Long Spear (part 1). Took of in Cyprus to go bomb a nuclear facility in Iran. In DCS this means transiting 2 maps (see the attached image) with a gap of around 550nm missing in the middle. Part 1 was our departure and first leg of the mission which was for the whole package, Finish F18's, French Mirage 2000's, US F16's, F15's and Strike Eagles and Jordanian JF17's, all flown by humans except for one AI Eagle and AI JF17 wingmen, to form up (departures from different airports in Cyprus and Turkey) and then fly chicks in tow with the tankers to the edge of the map, refueling as we go.

I did 3 hookups in the Mirage 2000, first one taking about 3 tons of gas and the next 2 around 1- 2 ton topups.

Part 2 will be us arriving in Iran and do the strike and meet back with the tankers for the transit home. Whole mission will be 2200nm which equates to about 7 hours real world flight time. Random failures is on and divert airfields are in place. The rules are that if your aircraft can be repaired you can join the next part, if not you are out. If you jettison your tanks in mission, they are gone for the next part meaning you will have real concerns regarding fuel on the strike part and on the return leg, making tanker hookups more regularly.

In part 1 the boom tanker for the F15's and Vipers already had a malfunction and the whole bunch of them had to divert for fuel. The tanker also. This meant we had to sit in a hold on the edge of the map waiting for them to form back up before we can continue to part 2. This is why I had 3 hookups instead of the 2 I should have done only.

Part 2 is this weekend.

The package arrived in the Persian Gulf. Couple of top ups and then we entered the Iranian FIR. The F16's was leading us around the SAM threat rings. Got close once and a SA6 did fire on me. The SA10 at Shiraz proved to be a major PITA for us.

Operation First Punch. Multiple packages hitting multiple targets in Egypt. I was in the Strike Eagle assigned to do a deep strike with JDAMS on a chemical warehouse. Was supposed to have a WSO but his connection from Brazil was too dodgy to use so I had to lone wolf this one. I was completely task saturated from the feet dry point until after I dropped my bombs. The video is indexed. After I landed there was still strikes happening to kill the ships and to take out the 2 warehouses my bombs did not destroy so I played GCI at the end a little. Also some footage right at the end showing the bombs from the Hornets hitting their targets. I really enjoyed this one!

The left and right voices you hear is people transmitting on a particular radio, so in the jet I hear radio 1 in my left ear (in this case it was AWACS or mission guard) and radio 2 in my right (this case it was the strike aircraft, which the Apaches gatecrashed :D ).

Due to the price increase in ammunition, do not expect a warning shot.

Operation Spicy Hog. I flew as the WSO on this mission. Egypt was not happy and launched a big offensive. Strike Eagle was tasked to crater enemy runways. We flew directly over one of the convoys heading towards Isreal and was tasked to take them out. I got wounded in the attack and we RTB'ed. Our next sortie again was heading towards the airbases but JTAC informed us that downed F18 pilots were being hunted by another convoy so we scrambled to go help them out. Afterwards we stayed in enemy airspace to provide CAP for the retreating friendly forces. Was a good mission. I think the last one in the campaign is going to be a humdinger.

Are there any good ex-SAAF operated models in DCS? Really sucks that we don't have say a Cheetah!
