South African Drone Ops 1981

Unread post by Shepherd »

I wanted to check some facts about something, was curious how many drone collisions on full size aircrafts have been reported over the years...

First line listed was this...

"Historical events involving UAVs
1981
The Israeli IAI Scout drone was operated in combat missions by the South African Defence Force against Angola during Operation Protea."

I knew a gent whom had helped me a ton in my early days when I started flying RC Helis, we actually met off Avcom and he was a legend of knowledge...
He told me when he was in the army he was quite involved with RC models then, flying them for target practice and this sort of things... But had no idea SA had UAV capabilities in the early 80's.

Maybe you knew this, but I didnt.... so thought I would share :)
