The airfield is home to Zululand Air Patrol ( ZAP Wing) which is part of Operation Rhino anti poaching
Since February, my son Keaton (Air Bear) has been the base manager and pilot flying the Bush Cat

For interest, this morning, Keaton in the Bush Cat with a spotter, were able to identify several poachers who were later apprehended by the ground reaction team... so the system works :) These poachers were not after rhino this time, but were after impala/springbuck for meat. Poachers 0, ZAP Airwing 1 :)

Just a word of caution based on own experience where I have been involved in aerial anti poaching flights in Africa (outside of SA). Sharing of any personal info is a huge security risk to all involved. The operator I was working for at the time went to great lengths to professionally analyze the security threat to the crew and their families. I thought it was over the top till I was briefed on the info properly, then my mind changed big time. Behind the poachers on the ground is a sofisticated network that will pickup on info like this in a heart beat if there operation sees resistance from aerial ops, your info will lead them straight to the source of their problem.

Good job, Keaton!

As far as I recall from my own Zululand days (aeons ago), that first photo is taken looking south, Bruce?
