Tell that to KZN hotels which remain the best performing in the country this year by far for occupancy. Don't fall for simple media one liners.
As for TAAG, their own business is a mess. They delayed this start to march over a month ago

Their :coming soon" has been there for quite a while.grjplanes wrote: Wed Jan 25, 2023 1:20 pm Looks like CemAir will launch CPT-KIM from middle February, 4 weekly with CRJ100.
Route map also shows "coming soon" JNB-ELS, CPT-ELS, DUR-GRJ
Because they are not competitive on the golden triangle. In their tiny planes they better off serve the thin minimal travelled routes. So the Kimberley, George etc to main hubs.twr1 wrote: Wed Jan 25, 2023 5:18 pmTheir :coming soon" has been there for quite a while.grjplanes wrote: Wed Jan 25, 2023 1:20 pm Looks like CemAir will launch CPT-KIM from middle February, 4 weekly with CRJ100.

Their jhb to Durban was reduced significantly last week and this week from 5/4 flights a day down to 2 a day. Saturday they didn't didn't fly that route .

It is! There are something like 9000 seats per year of travelers between Algeria and South Africa. This was prior to a significant down scaling of South Africans working in Algeria post Covid. Additionally Algeria isn't pushing for tourists to visit its country. They don't want the risk of anything going wrong, and the negative press/impact on foreign Oil and Gas companies working in Algeria. I fly in and out of Algiers airport often, sometimes with Air Algerie. It's not suited for international transit at all. There isn't even a transit channel to avoid clearing customs/immigration, so I have no idea how that would work. The airport itself is not comfortable at all, there is no transit hotel and despite there being a very nice Hyatt a few hundred metres from the terminal building, without a visa (which takes weeks via the embassy), you won't be allowed to enter the country. The airline itself is pretty horrific. I've flown them both domestically as well as in and out of Europe. Tatty aircraft that are never cleaned properly, inefficient ground staff, massive delays, etc etc. The cabin crew and flight deck crew I will say are professional and friendly.African Flyer wrote: Fri Jan 27, 2023 5:19 pmSeems like a throwing money away exerciseairbusa346 wrote: Wed Jan 25, 2023 3:38 pm Air Algerie starts Johannesburg: https://simpleflying.com/air-algerie-ai ... annesburg/

Thank you for confirming the reality there. I'm honestly not one bit surprised that excluding crew, everything's rubbishBurner wrote: Fri Jan 27, 2023 6:32 pmIt is! There were talks a number of years ago of the SA authorities dropping the tourist visa requirements for Algerians to visit SA. As far as I can see this hasn't happened. Algerian colleagues who have had to deal with the SA embassy in Algiers, have also complained at how long the visa processing times are.
I'm scratching my head on this one.
