Scammers on the loose

Unread post by Stefan Coetzee »

Ladies and gents,

I was a victim of a scammer, that goes by the name of ADJ Du Preez, cellphone number 076 290 8748. We've exchanged details (ID's), I had no reason to worry. Now he / she / they have my ID too and my name could be used to knock people.

I've been taken for R2000. If you come across a sale with his name or mine, watch out. Please reach out to me on the details below for more info.

Such a pity that these things happen amongst aviators and the other so-called aviators.

The same F@$% a Hole took me earlier this week for R 6200 - sold a transponder to me that did not exist . He called himself Chris from Port Alfred apparently , he made reference to known people in the industry and knew all the answers without hesitation when asked .. thus i did not doubt him

Anyway been trying to track him down , but no one in Port Alfred area knows this A hole

So what mechanisms do we agree on to deal with these people?

First step is to PM, that offers some sort of authentication, based on the User history, nimber of posts, time on the forum, etc.

Everyone on Avcom know someone else on Avcom.

Its exasperating to be suspicious of every person you deal with....

I was also taken for R6200 by a Scammer under the name of T Evens who was trolling this forum and 'sold' me a Trig transponder. He also had an MGL EFIS, ICOM A220, and an electrical slip indicator for 'sale'.

The scammer uses the phone number 083 525 2267 and Capitec account number 1366435689.

Pics for reference, note the style of first contact. It probably wont be the same after they see this though so keep that in mind too.

Agree, chances are good its the same oak. The account I've made a payment to was also at Capitec. APJ Du Preez. I also believe this scumbag uses his victim's ID's to con us. Plus to top it all, I didn't even noticed, his drivers license expired

I also belive we should conduct all our sales via PM's its a bit safer.

I was also taken by an a@#$hole apparently called Lucas Swart for a MGL V16 that I was looking for. (+27 64 945 6524)

He had all the correct people in the business (mentioned Patrick Hanley and Mooney) so obviously these lowlifes troll our posts before scamming us.
Reported him via the bank but he's already cleared out the Capitec account, now it is a criminal case at the police.
He seems to be operating in the Swheizer Reneke area, or at least he's scamming people there too via some hunting and ammunition ads on Facebook groups.
