Qatar Airways bans Youtuber Josh Cahill
Should Cahill have been banned? Qatar didn't exactly cover themselves in glory here, Akbar Al Baker resigned as Qatar Airways CEO. https://onemileatatime.com/news/qatar-a ... ZLlCwHOjkE

Re: Qatar Airways bans Youtuber Josh Cahill
This seems like an overreaction by Qatar Airways to ban Josh Cahill over some minor criticism in his reviews. While no airline is perfect, outright banning influential content creators who find faults comes across as thin-skinned.I watched Cahill's Qatar business class review that sparked this and while he pointed out some areas for improvement, it was mostly positive. Hardly seems ban-worthy offense. In the social media age, companies need to accept constructive feedback and engage creators in good faith. Negatively silencing critics rather than taking the chance to improve is a bad look.Hopefully with the leadership change, Qatar Airways reconsiders their relations with reviewers like Josh. Restoring his boarding rights could be an olive branch to start fresh. Because the optics of this from a PR perspective made the airline seem petty rather than prestigious.Character witness letter templates are pre-designed documents that provide a structured format for creating written testimonials or statements of support regarding an individual’s personal character and integrity. These templates offer a convenient and professional way to compose a character witness letter, making it easier to provide a comprehensive and well-organized account of the individual’s positive traits and behavior.

Re: Qatar Airways bans Youtuber Josh Cahill
Josh Cahill has to be one of the most annoying "Youtubers" out there. I still suspect that Qatar Airways sponsered him so that he could make them look good.
People need to remember. The GCC are all about appearance and public image. They take criticism very serious and try to censor anyone who criticizes them.
Banning him. A bit overboard. Surprising. No.

Aviation would be great, if it wouldn't be for passengers.

Re: Qatar Airways bans Youtuber Josh Cahill
I agree, GCC countries don't take criticism well, but at the same time a lot of these "influencers" are not interested in providing anything constructive. It's mostly just clickbait reviews since it gets more attention and clicks.
They're not the only airlines banning or limiting. Recently Qantas have banned filming on board, specifically filming of people (whether passengers or staff) without their explicit consent. Several other airlines have similar rules. An aircraft is not a public space and there is no expectation of free speech. I suspect that influencers will need to be more careful about their methodologies since most major airlines are watching this very closely.

Somehow regard "Influencers" on the same level as carguards. Asking for free handouts whilst not contributing anything constructive in return.

I understand Qantas decision fully.
"Influencers" have become a plaque.

Re: Qatar Airways bans Youtuber Josh Cahill
Also not surprised filming is going to be restricted in certain airliners. It's all well and good that the YouTuber asks for consent to film you, but I travel to get from A to B, not to have to deal with requests to be filmed/involved in a youtube video.
I don't find it surprising at all that the Qatar crew who had initially consented to being filmed, retracted it. What did they gain by giving the consent? They presumably weren't expecting it to result in them being pushed into the headlines, due to this review.
I do think Qatar dropped the ball with their response though. Just a "we apologise for the service being below our usual standards, thanks for drawing our attention to it. We look forward to you travelling with us in the future, where we are very sure it will live up to our excellent standards... blah blah"

Re: Qatar Airways bans Youtuber Josh Cahill
The discussion at Qantas considered some of these questions. Specifically, do crew feel they are under duress to consent? Are younger or less experienced crew more likely to feel pressure to consent? The person filming may record consent, but what if consent is then withdrawn? Is this filmed or do they just ignore this and make it a "he said, she said dynamic". Does withdrawing consent after the fact apply to recording prior with withdrawal of consent, etc.Burner wrote: ↑Fri Dec 29, 2023 10:58 pm Also not surprised filming is going to be restricted in certain airliners. Furthermore, knowing you are being filmed may impact service. Does being filmed make one feel under pressure or more nervous? At the end of the day, they are not being trained for that and have not prepared themselves for that, and not signed up for it.
Essentially, this is now company policy, making it simpler and easier. Crew don't have to consider any of this which may itself be a distraction from their duties.

Pretty tough decision on deciding who is the bigger prick between Cahill and Al Baker. Think the latter takes the cake here.

At least the latter has built a successful airline. Bags of money and weak labour laws are not a sufficient condition. He's a prick, but I do admire his gumption.Nicolaas206 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 9:17 am Pretty tough decision on deciding who is the bigger prick between Cahill and Al Baker. Cahill on the other hand has made a career making clickbait. Nothing productive about it.

Re: Qatar Airways bans Youtuber Josh Cahill
I tend to hate watch Cahill. His videos offer nothing of value to his audience. There are far better more sympathetic "Youtubers" out there like Noel Philips and Jeb Brooks.evanb wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 4:37 amAt least the latter has built a successful airline. Re: Qatar Airways bans Youtuber Josh Cahill
Does the airline actually think this is a good marketing or good PR?
Good companies welcome critics and use it to improve their product, guess they don’t fall into that category
Sad
If you work with the public EXPECT to be filmed, this is huge, a little common sense and the bad actors end up just filming themself being a ass and your workers make you look BETTER, the “don’t film me” historically isn’t a good look

I understand what you trying to say. But the issue with "influencers" is that they feel entitled, disrupt members of the public and generally show no respect to the people around them.NineThreeKilo wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2024 2:41 am Does the airline actually think this is a good marketing or good PR?

Noel Philips actually mentioned in a video how he films his flight reviews and does his utter best not distrub other passengers.

Have you guys actually watched his other videos?? He givers praise where it is due and point out problems as he sees it, so none of you guys agree with anything he said or pointed out??
I think Josh Cahill and Noel Phillips gives pretty honest reviews none of those have taken any freebies to give a good review unlike Sam Chui.
