If you don't gear up your brain before takeoff, you'll probably gear up your airplane on landing.

Re: 2 Delta aircraft collide on taxi way at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta
Ouch!
...must say.... I am very surprised to see the tailplane -particularly of a T-Tail --'snap off' quite so easily and cleanly-?
I would've thought there would be a substantial vertical structural spar through the rudder and into the airframe around the APU?
-maybe it's there, and it just snapped, rather than get deformed/bent?
Wonder what the structural certification testing protocol is for anticipated tailplane lateral loads - in "G's".

Re: 2 Delta aircraft collide on taxi way at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta
There was another video circulating with the ATC conversations. The pilot acknowledged that he had hit something and asked if someone could tell him what it was. Situational Awareness failure perhaps? I mean the only thing he could of hit would have been the CRJ. Yes? No?

Re: 2 Delta aircraft collide on taxi way at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta
The pilots of both aircraft are to blame in my view. Why was the CRJ stopped too close to the taxiway used by the A350? And, as JCA hinted already, why did the A350 pilots not check for clearance? It's not as if that red and blue tail could possibly blend in with the background!JCA wrote: Wed Sep 11, 2024 10:53 am There was another video circulating with the ATC conversations. Also puzzled why cameras are not installed in large airliners to feed airframe/surroundings live images to cockpit? --it's done in every second car nowadays, so it's not about the tech not being available.

Usually the tail has 6 bolts holding the v stab to a fitting on the fuselage. I'll try and find a photo and post it here.Patrick AL wrote: Wed Sep 11, 2024 11:57 amPatrick AL wrote: Wed Sep 11, 2024 8:31 am Ouch!

Re: 2 Delta aircraft collide on taxi way at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta
I believe that there are a number of attachment points rather than any sort of spar running through? In that case the fixed point of resisance is at the fuselage and you gain leverage the higer you push it. Levers - powerful ancient techPatrick AL wrote: Wed Sep 11, 2024 8:31 am Ouch!

"...er, we just hit something on the taxiway: can you tell us what it was?"
