On Saturday 28th September the "Commemorative Great Train Race" will take place at Heidelberg Airport. Rovos Rail will be running a steam train to the local station and there will be Vintage cars, motorcycles and aircraft participating as well as on show, and it is hoped that all interested aviators will fly in to view the event, however please note the following:...
- If possible the wearing of vintage clothing is being encouraged as it is hoped the grow this event in a manner similar to the British "Goodwood Festival of Speed" event.
- Please would any pilots interested in flying in ensure they check NOTAM's for updates (e.g. clearway / extension of runway 06 and 24 presently U/S due rain damage / surface deterioration) and be advised that standard unmanned arrival procedures are to be adhered to.
- Food / drinks and snacks will be available for purchase in the entertainment area just to the North of the Clubhouse.
- It appears that personnel from SACAA will be in attendance and thus Pilots are to ensure they carry all required documentation and adhere to CAA procedures and rules / regulations.
-This is a Great Train Race (Pty) Ltd organised event and Heidelberg Aviation Association is merely providing volunteers to assist with ground marshalling / parking.
FAHG frequency: 125.90
FAHG elevation: 5120ft
FAHG runways: 06 / 24 (1.2km tar runway excl extensions which should not be utilised)
Parking available on grass opposite the new fuel facility where there are some tiedowns set into the ground. Please do not park in front of hangars or on taxiways (Ground parking assistants should be on hand to guide arrivals)
Avgas and JET A1 will be available.
Arrive overhead at 7100ft then descend on the inactive side of airfield for joining the standard left hand traffic pattern for whichever runway is in use. Circuit altitude 6100ft. There is a windsock located near clubhouse buildings and another located about 1/3 way along runway 06. If congestion develops we may require arriving aircraft to depart the Tar runway at grass / gravel taxiways D or E to get to B taxiway that leads to the parking areas.

Is it possible to drive there and gain entry,
A few years back, Ray Watts drove to this event and they would not let him in.
