66 Hydraulics Failure Training

Unread post by CoastalPilot »

Good day all, I’m hoping to get some advice here regarding hydraulics failure procedures in a Robinson.

I’ve recently learnt there are two main ways of handling a hydraulics failure: 1) Perform a run-on landing to minimize control inputs, and 2) Bring the machine into a stable hover and then land.

Which is the best/preferred approach to handling hydraulics failure in a 66?

I highly doubt you will be able to do a stable hover without tons of practice. The controls are very tight and difficult to get any kind of accurate or anticipated movement. The best is a forward movement in a straight line onto a tar or hard surface....you can put it down without running on but it takes practice. I am not rated on the R66 but will apply to all hydraulic Robinsons.

I agree with rotorkop (and I am type rated). Definitely not a run on landing. That will kill you.

What is meant is to just let her settle down with an ever so small forward movement.
