Wonder what the status is in terms of renewing the procedures for George airports and other airports affected by the suspended procedures?

Good to see airlines putting safety above profit in their decisions and erring on the side of caution. Thumbs up Safair!

Re: Eight flights to George Airport cancelled
Yes, we had low clouds and rain, most of the morning. Didn't hear any airliners.
While we were walking with our dogs during a sunny period, which quickly went away again, we saw a Cemair flight pass overhead, travelling West towards Groot Brak where they all turn base. Next moment it came over our heads, approaching from the ocean, flying North, a much closer base than normal. This was around 14h20. I hope they got in.
Was a Dash 8.
Whirly.

On a related topic: I'm flying into George tomorrow and saw on the NOTAMS that the TWR and APP frequencies get combined for certain slots on Sundays - can anyone on ATNS side explain the logic behind this?

I thought it was on Saturdays after 15h00, when the tower closes after the last commercial flight has left?andrem wrote: Tue Oct 22, 2024 9:18 pm On a related topic: I'm flying into George tomorrow and saw on the NOTAMS that the TWR and APP frequencies get combined for certain slots on Sundays - can anyone on ATNS side explain the logic behind this?

Re: Eight flights to George Airport cancelled
Are these cancelled flights as a result of the weather or the fact that the instrument approaches are suspended because someone forgot to renew the paperwork?

Re: Eight flights to George Airport cancelled
It’s common for ATSUs with more than 2 positions to combine them during periods of low traffic levels or staff constraints. Most places don’t NOTAM it (both frequencies will still be working as usual, you should just hear transmissions on the other frequency too).andrem wrote: Tue Oct 22, 2024 9:18 pm On a related topic: I'm flying into George tomorrow and saw on the NOTAMS that the TWR and APP frequencies get combined for certain slots on Sundays - can anyone on ATNS side explain the logic behind this?

Airlines will not dispatch to an airport where they cannot do a legal, safe approach. It is hardly a decision.kevster wrote: Tue Oct 22, 2024 4:34 pm Good to see airlines putting safety above profit in their decisions and erring on the side of caution. Thumbs up Safair!
It is all well laid out in their regulations and standard operating procedures.

Re: Eight flights to George Airport cancelled
Apparently East London approaches have been sorted out and approved?
Any update on George?
As things stand now it seems George will be a lot busier this coming few weeks and definitely more than ELS. Up to 50% more commercial flights scheduled so far and with Plett closed probably a few more private as well.
Usually a lot of fog around this time of year as well.

Re: Eight flights to George Airport cancelled
Having gone through the season without major problems, due to very good weather for holidaymakers the last 6 weeks, today on the last real day of the big exodus it is raining and with a south-east wind causing some diversions and holding.
Any indication when GRJ would be fully certified again, from all approaches?

I just dropped friends off, they fly out at 15h10, just hope they do.
As I left, an Airlink flight landed.
