Hollee mother of aviation !!!

Is there an earth berm at the end of the run-off ?

Did they not burn off their fuel ?

Did they have no throttle control ?

So many belly-landings have been successfully executed with no casualties. How did this one end so catastrophically ?

Can't see how deep the landing was... speculating, but it appears no flaps on landing and probably no spoilers... they would have had serious hydraulic issues for that to be forced on them. Going so close to the ground, maybe float and just too much energy. Poor souls...

First the KLM 737-800 with hydraulic failure, and now most likely this one as well. 737-800s might well be grounded.

That was either a very deep and fast landing or they had some thrust ON for some reason.
Cannot see how a possible bird strike on one engine can cause such a big hydraulic issues.

Word has it a bird strike.

Seems they were warned birds on approach by ATC, and were instructed to change runways. Soon after that mayday call was issued.

Perhaps considerable tailwind contributed to high speed landing

Pilot called Mayday after bird strike warning - transport officialspublished at 11:42
11:42

A South Korean transport official earlier gave details about what happened to the plane as it approached the airport.

The plane had been attempting to land but then air traffic control gave a bird strike warning forcing the plane to hold off, the official says
About two minutes later, the pilot called a Mayday - and air traffic command gave permission for the plane to land from an opposite direction

The pilot accepted - video shows the plane touched down without wheels or any other landing gear and skidded down the runway before crashing into a wall, causing a fiery explosion.

The transport department notes that the head pilot had been in this role since 2019 and had more than 9,800 hours of flight experience.

No idea what happened before the landing. But on touchdown, no undercarriage, no flaps and looks way too fast. Looks like the right engine thrust reverser was open. It hit the ILS localiser(with a serious concrete foundation in this case) beyond the runway at high speed. Instant destruction on impact.

Looking at the Google Earth Images dated 30th September it does not appear that there is an earth Berm at beyond the run off,

May very well be another Sully double flameout, complicating things somewhat......

Looks like there is a berm from this older image -?

- certainly looked like the aircraft hit something much more substantial than the block wall to stop it so suddenly and violently.

According to some news reports... at least 177 of 181 people on board killed. I had no idea it would be so bad. Poor people, RIP...

Interesting initial guesswork / analysis: downwind landing in poor landing configuration.
