The ACARS message we received enroute to Perth some years ago. The various space agencies seem to like dumping their space junk into that part of the Indian Ocean.

I'm just wondering, with Qantas delaying flights, does SAA follow suite on that route?

SAA flies a route to Perth which is a lot more north than Qantas, so maybe not effected.ddevos wrote: Wed Jan 15, 2025 11:13 amFacebook says that page isn't available...IKTAV wrote: Wed Jan 15, 2025 7:35 am https://www.facebook.com/share/1ET6NG6s ... tid=wwXIfr

Re: Qantas South Africa flights delayed by falling debris from SpaceX rockets
I was on one of the delayed flights earlier this year, with a scheduled 5 hour departure delay, and then once we were boarded notified that their operations staff had required about an extra hour delay to be on the conservative side.
The check-in staff were great in letting us know the reasons for the delay - with characteristic good humour, and the captain also backed the message up on board.
However, the last announcement of an extra hours delay broke one of the passengers- who I think had a breakdown. She was travelling alone with about a 3 year old daughter. By this stage many of our connecting flights from Sydney were no longer an option, we personally did not know where we would be put up overnight. That stress probably put her over the edge. As a disruptive passenger (although she went past us weeping quietly) she and daughter was de-planed by 4 burly security guards, which added even extra delay. I felt very sorry for her, as her life was going to go from bad to very much worse.
My replacement flight from Sydney the next day was also delayed after boarding for 2 hours due to one of the 737-800 flight control computers not booting up, and a replacement installed- but that’s another story. Some journeys just attract issues.
