Premier to launch aviation school in Port Alfred
15 Jan 2025 | Thulisile Mapongwana

Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane and Education MEC Fundile Gade will officially launch the Eastern Cape Aviation School on Friday at 43 Air School in Port Alfred.

This historic launch marks a significant milestone in the province's education sector as it introduces the three-stream model pilot program.

The Eastern Cape Aviation School aims to establish a High School for Aerospace Science, a new public education model focused on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

The initiative stems from a Memorandum of Understanding between 43 Air School and the Eastern Cape Department of Education. It will also see the introduction of aero-maritime studies at Port Alfred High School.

The provincial government has partnered with industry experts to provide focused learning in specialized occupational fields.

Bhisho spokesperson Khuselwa Rantjie says the program will begin with Grade 10 learners selected from across the province. It will equip them with skills for South Africa’s growing economy.

“This groundbreaking initiative demonstrates the provincial government's commitment to providing innovative education and training opportunities, ultimately developing future leaders in all sectors of society,” Rantjie concluded.

Interesting article about busoness partnering with government

This school can really work if they are prepared to deal with the normal frustrations...(not for me though)
