WAC charts, Government Printers

Unread post by fly for fun 2 »

There was a time when you could drive to the Government Printers in Pretoria, and get a stock of charts, cheap-cheap. I cannot get through by phone to check if this is still available. Anyone know if this is still possible? Or have a contact number? The website phone number is a dead end. Thanks

This won't help you in Pretoria, but down here in the Cape, you can still do that at the Dept of Land Reform & Rural Development offices just below UCT, and the maps remain cheap.

Think the Mowbray (Cape Town) office will also give you the soft copy maps, provided you bring a hard drive.
How come every time my ship comes in I'm at the airport?

Can also download the soft copy maps online from the national GIS repository: http://www.cdngiportal.co.za/cdngiportal/

Have fun. You can get 1:500 000 and 1:1 000 000 ICAO spec maps.

Worth remembering our aeronautical maps are done with the Lambert Conformal Conic projection and most EFBs, EFISes and apps generally want it as WGS84. I have all of our local maps remapped to WGS84 if you need. You may also need to convert stuff from GeoTiff to PDF for easy viewing. Have those too but easy enough to do with QGIS.
