Hi,
I am looking at purcasing a 235 and was wondering what the average MPI will be on these aircraft.
Would appreciate it if you would share your expenses please.
I believe the fuel burn rate is around 13gal/h, will this be the best burn rate or can you expect better if you lean out and bring the power down to around 115kts?
Regards
Pieter

You can cruise at 120kts and it will bring the fuel burn right down, that is a nice cruise speed and easy for nav calculations.

Average MPI costs will differ from aircraft to aircraft, and how well it has been cared for previously. Things like mag overhauls, prop mid-life or overhaul intervals, engine hours, ADs complied with etc. Remember it is a 6 cylinder engine, and if cared for properly, they are bullet proof engines.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
It would be interesting to hear what the burn rate is at around 120knts

i agree 100% with Whirly. If you bring the power back to cruise at Cherokee 180 speeds you will get Cherokee 180 consumption..
The 235 is a brilliant, and grossly undervalued aeroplane. If you can get a good one at the right price, grab it. No one ever regrets buying a 235 - they only regret selling one.

Agree to what Whirly and Uncle Jim said, and you can always take advise from them.
Im learning from them still everyday
You’ll never regret buying a 235.
In summer i cruise at 13-13.5 gal/hour to aid in cooling, will do 130kts with wheel spats ons, without wheelspats the speed comes down to about 123kts . Planning for 120kts cruise should serve you well.
MPI without too many snags, you’re looking at about R30-R40k per year. I have a fixed pitch, a variable pitch might be a little more
IMHO it was the perfect first airplane I could have bought and wont consider selling it anytime soon.
Its a very lekker aerie

** in winter you can get away with leaning to 12.5gal/hour
I normally cruise at 2500rpm (*fixed pitch), if you throttle back to 2400rpm in the cruise you can get close to 10gal/hr consumption
