Battery Experts can build your pack.
else look on banggood, it will cost R300 and you'll get it in 2 weeks.

Hey .. apologies to budge in ...

I been in this same boat / Quest / Hunt for the same thing 2 years back - about.. After buying 3 cheap 12V powered supposed Spot Welders, I eventually bought a decent one that works. Do not waste money on cheap tools. My dad told me this - but I thought I knew better.. .Turns out Dad knew better ;)

I bought a Sunkko 737G+ - and it is worth every cent. mucking around with cheap tools that say they do something they fail at attempting is not worth the time or the savings. Back then it set me back 212 USD, and an couple of grand in Rands for shipping.

Hope you get sorted though..

All opinions are welcome thanks. After months of thinking this over i also came to the conclusion that these pocket one's is going to bite one in the long run. But i cant afford your 3-4k welder either so the best compromise is to do it with a ( myplan at least) psu i have 2 two 67 amp 12v psu's that i plan to perhaps connect in series.

(If it blows it blows but i'm willing to try it)

Then i have a 90 000 uf 100v Cap bank that will be connected to the psu with a big starter solenoid i got the other day.

This is what i got at hand so i have to make it work whether or not its a good solution i need to make it work as its all i got.

If i can make it work hopefully it would last much longer than a pocket spot welder.

Problem is... i am not sure how to exactly put it all together in the best way to make it work. I mean i can solder and build things but i need some guidance...

And a control board from my research would also smoothen out things, but not sure where i can get one for cheap. I dont have extra to spend.

If only i knew someone that could help me put it together.
I have a hobby item or two i can give them to show my grattitude.

It will BLOW LOL !!!!

I have to say I have a R300 spot welder and while it's not great and I have to put it on the highest level it actually works fine and does the job, as I said I have one like in the link, had it for 3 years and have packs I built with it still running.

The hope is that the psu's might not blow if i add the massive cap bank as a buffer as well as a big fuse.
Then the solenoid too.

Yes, your timer is exactly what i want to add to the whole thing. The psu's and massive cap bank needs to just replace the 12v source.

If only i can get the timer board locally affordably and a schematic to hook my specific components up. That would be a helpful start.

PSU in parallel with capacitor bank
Pos to Post
Neg to Neg
A timer based on the NE555 IC with a power transistor to switch the solenoid will do the trick.
The timer will need it's own PSU as the weld will short it out.

Just spitballing, but how about something like:
Scheme-it-export-New-Project-2025-03-20-09-58.png
Add a 12V 5W lamp. Then you only need a 5W PSU (12V, 0.5A) and no timer (relay will automatically open when caps are discharged).

Only disadvantage is that it will take a second or 2 to recharge between welds. If it buzzes, producing very rapid pulses, then the lamp is too low resistance for the capacitor bank - replace it with a 100Ohm 1W resistor.

I was told the capacitors i have won't discharge quickly enough ? Perhaps the person was missing something ?

12V PSU = 0.5A would be OK - entire punch comes from capacitor bank.
LS1 = 12V 5W lamp (eg indicator lamp from Midas).
RY1 = solenoid
S1 = push button switch
C1 = capacitor bank

No need for timer boards or anything. BUT it assumes the capacitor bank has enough punch to do the weld on its own.

Also, this is spitballing - never tried this, but it looks like it should work.

ok will just disregard what the other person said about the discharge rate of the caps and connect the cap bank to the 67 amp psu [-o<

Starter solenoid between psu and cap bank
Or starter solenoid between ic board and cap bank.

Does this order look right:

67 amp PSU ----> 10 000uf cap bank ---> starter solenoid-->NE555 IC--> welding rods.

(Button switch between Psu cap bank and starter solenoid)

The NE555 timer switches on the solenoid coil for the desired duration of weld.

I will try my best to make sense of it thanks.
When i have the timer i will post actual pics of how i think it should be connected. For now i will look at the links you posted thank you.
