Should you be planning an event that falls under AIC 19.1 and which will include power flying (excluding aerobatics or air shows) the application form is available here for your convenience.

Or go to http://www.sapfa.org.za/administration/aic19-1

I don't know if there is a specific rule, but the idea is that it is any event where there will be an increased pilot workload. Examples are spot landing comps, fly ins with abnormal traffic, rallies, or any time when Darrell is in the circuit!
My wife keeps saying I don't listen to her or something like that !?

So, if I understand it correctly, you can organise your club's Fly-in, without getting permission from CAA.

However,

1.No spot landings
2.No fly-pasts
3.No demonstration flights

You can practice landing on a line,
You can do a runway inspection,
You can even practice a navigation flight just do not call it a competition.

Rotormad is abso;utely correct. However, SAPFA will do their best to assist you in areas which may be improved upon, all for the sake of safety. This application is not there to find something "wrong" or to look for a reason to deny the application - it's an effort to assist event organisers in doing things safely. If you start timely with your planning and include this in your planning, it's really no hassle to get the permission.

Henk in die Bos

This is so true - every year everything is left to the last and then trying to klap all together.
After last year fly in to Uis / Brandberg LISAMA fly - in the week after we had a meeting and
took a complete year to get everything in place and organised for 2017
Fantastic Sponsors
Good response for attendance - even from South Africa
Only to battle up to the last minute getting official approval
All Government against aviation had a say or a complaint or nitty gritty <<moderated - language>>
We only got permission for the fly in yesterday afternoon 28 April for the fly in of 4 to 7 May
Why why why do they have to make everything difficult
We have some South African pilots attending but if someone from far away desire to attend they have not enough time getting all clearances etc

Cheers
Johan

Hi Johan

You know the answer to your frustration question don’t you ??

You mentioned it perfectly - earlier in your post

Our g-o-v’s no longer want us to have “our own fun” anymore

The water temp in the pot we in just went T up another .25’C

You know us frogs - we don’t just jump out easily or fast enough for them 🤬
