DC-6 to fly out of Swartkop?
Visited southern part of Swartkop yesterday and noticed some activity around the DC-6 ZS-XXX. The aircraft have been parked there for many years now. Maintenance inspection underway for possible repair/servicing to fly the aircraft out of Swartkop! The aircraft cleaned and inspection panels opened up... the technician on site mentioned that the aircraft does have a new owner that is keen to re-locate this very historic aircraft.
I would not like to miss the first engine run-ups ... and what else might follow. Early days yet though.

Very exciting news indeed. I wonder who is involved with this aircraft now? She has had a hard time of it the last couple of years.. Ready my article in African Pilot (issue 2) on the same a/c (s/n 45329) "Angie Baby".
Here are some links to pics of the same aircraft in happier times;

Technical team continueing with repairs to XXX. Yes she will fly even though the owners have been cautioned about the amount of work needed on her. People with such a passion and obviously money need to be applauded. Great conservation news.

The team is still at it - after more than a year of work to get her into flying condition.

Lovely, beautiful, she just looks different when she turns onto the runway, built to fly.
Very close to flying now. Hats off to the owners and the team keeping at it.
Pilot Johann van den Berg has been assigned to fly her and he is trying hard to convince Chris Schutte to bring V5-NCG "Bateleur" down from Eros for a formation flight. Now that will be awesome.

That would be unreal - I've been watching, over time, how she's been worked on. It'll be good to see her in the air again even though it'll only be for a short flight to Wahlmansthal.steamtrainfan wrote:Now wouldn't it be fantastic if she was ready for her maiden flight on August 14???????????
