Thank you, Etienne! I think it <was> a -7C...
Nice pictures on your Flickerbook page. You asked about location in one -- Beaufort West or Keetmans -- I suspect the latter in that case, because it <appears> that there is tarmac in background. Ain't none at BW.

A day I will never never forget. Unbelieveable piloting skills. Well done guys.
Saw many video cameras around.........
Will there be a video of the whole event including the spectacular runway inspection flypast? Would love to purchase a copy.

Yes the film company Aquavision filmed the event and will produce a documentary about the event and the history of the aircraft.Sausage wrote:A day I will never never forget. Unbelieveable piloting skills. Well done guys.

The Cessna 210 carried an air-to-air cameraman and a few minicams were mounted in and outside the aircraft.
Derek Hopkins (Gogga) piloted the chase-plane and did very well to keep station on the DC-6.

I am so sorry I could not make it!
Well done to the pilot(s). They can now officially claim to (safely) landing an airliner on a microlight strip!
Thanks for all the pictures and video. Stunning!

Re: DC-6 to fly out of Swartkop?
Was a Swartkops on Saturday morning to witness the departure of this Grand Lady. What an amazing experience. My grandson (age 12) was with me and his remarks will remain with me forever "Oupa, there is nothing like the sound of these engines to me. Its better than any jet engine"
It was also an eerie feeling to be present and understand the significance of what was taking place from around 06h00 on Saturday morning. Contributing to this was the fog present and hanging in the air. Felt like even the sky was 'crying' of what was about to happen.
The applause of the spectators when the aircraft rotated, was overwhelming
Good Bye - well done !!!

Nogal with an elbow half-way down the strip, and then it seemed they did not even need the longer runway. It was long enoug as it was! Well done gentlemen, seeing the little video, and you guys flying that big gracefull old bird int that strip like a light plane, sure gave me bigtime goosebumps!!Thys Bas wrote:I am so sorry I could not make it!
