Re: Ask George
Ben
I have been in contact a few times before christmas with Ian Kotze' from the SA Jabiru factory.
Ian was good enough to email me a couple of times but since christmas i have had no reply.
i have tried to contact Ian via reply email a few times this year but did not receive anything.
I was starting to wonder if he is ok.
Could you be so kind as to let me know if everything is ok with Ian as i still have more to discuss with him.
I know he said he had heaps to do leading up to christmas and i expect the workload is still as busy as ever now.
Thanks again for your help
Andrew

Ian has resigned, and I do believe he is now building performance cars / doing performance mods to cars.

Re: Ask George
Think it will still be called the "Kotze Kielie", give the man his dues.
As for it being a blow, I think not, a disappointment, maybe. But you cannot hold a man back when he is chasing a dream, most of us had to chase our dream to become a pilots, so I think we all understand that one a little bit ...
Best of luck to him, and who knows, maybe we will se him back in the aviation circles one day.

Re: Ask George
Hi all,
I seem to get a "remote compass lost" message every now and then with my Dynon EFIS system. I clear this condition by powering the EFIS off and on again, then everything seems fine again. The system has the latest software from Dynon installed but still is as sporadic as before. Anyone have an idea as to what the problem might be?

Re: Ask George
Hi Matie
Do you know where the remote compass is installed in your aerie?
Usually behind the rear bulkhead. Make sure you do not store anything metal, particularly magnetic stuff close to there. I one stored my toolset close to there, and my did I scramble the brains on that thing, so eventually it gave me the same message.
In addition, ensure the connecting plugs on the remote unit and at the back of the Dynon is propely plugged in and secured. Check that your antenna cable is not runnong close to the cable from the remote, transmitting on certain frequencies have been know to confuse the unit as well.
Keep us posted, we all learn from these things

Re: Ask George
Hi Ben
Yes indeed, my compass is installed behind the rear bulkhead and as far as I know, no ferro metals or magnets are close to it (haven't had the panel off yet...). I will have a look behind the panel and check the plugs for continuity as well as the routing (and shielding) of the radio's antenna cable... Thank you for the advice and I will keep everyone posted (will do the checking during the course of the week).

Re: Ask George
Hi Ben,
I have opened my instrument panel and could see nothing that might cause the problem. I have unplugged and retightened the serial connectors at the back of the Dynon device and the problem did not show up again. I can only postulate that there might have been a "connection" issue as the problem "cleared while localizing", to use a convenient term... I will continue to monitor the situation. Thanks for your suggestions.

Re: Ask George
Hi everyone,
I have a ground adjustable Sensenich composite propeller. On my pre-flight inspection, I noticed what appears to be "hairline" cracks on the shanks of both blades. It would appear that it is only the paint that is cracked. I have seen Sesenich's service bulletin regarding this issue but would like to know if other people experienced this as well and what they have done to resolve this. Is it something I (we) should be "worried" about?

Re: Ask George
Hi,
This photo shows a crack on one of my propeller shanks. The "round" bit at the black and white intersection of the painted area, looks nastier than it actually is. This is whats left after I scratched a bit of "flakey" paint off the shank. I have send Len a more comprehensive set of photographs and will be guided by his recommendations, in the meantime, I'm grounded...

Re: Ask George
Hi Matie,
Had the same cracks in the paint on mine, 160 hours later it was still going fine. As far as I was able to ascertain the cracks are only in the paint, the blades themselves are fine. (they do look crap though!)
Cheers, Don.
