The SP, especially the earlier one with the smaller tank in the rear, definitely have no wear close to 6 hours endurance. I'd never fly an SP more than four and a half hours!

The SPs came with 65l or 85l tanks. 85l would be 6.5 hours endurance at typical cruise settings.

the flap viabration occured after repairs ? then I suspect that the bushings between the flap bolt and the hinge arm were not put back. these bushings are small. They are made up of 1/4 bundy tube 7mm long.Check this first. If the marks are there sand under the trailing edg of the wing and check the clearance with a piece of paper.
Feedback - I checked the flaps and the bolts& nuts on the hinges underneath the flaps were a tad too loose. Tightened them a bit (not too tight though, since they should be fairly loose). Vibration dissappeared, ops normal. Bundy tube bushings? Could not find them. Should I bother?
Thanks for the assistance, Len, appreciate it.

Len:
Some feedback about my J430 "engine vibration" that I called you about from Port Alfred.
The dynamic balancing checked out ok.
Blow by's ok.
Prop and flange bolts were ok.
Flywheel had no nicks or loose bits.

I am convinced that my poblem was carb icing.

I thought I knew how to Identify carb icing from my Lycoming days. In Lyco's, carb ice, when left unchecked, was noticable in power loss, then rough running and a dramatic engine fit whilst carb heat was applied.

In my Jabi, it causes a strangely regular vibration. Changing the throttle setting makes the engine run smooth again.
Once I realised that it was carb ice, of course, application of carb heat cured the problem, and stopped the vibration from re-occurring by periodic preventative carb heat application in warm and humid coastal flying.

Next question please, Len:

The following pic shows my carb with a plastic rivet missing from the plastic cover:
What is under that cover?
How do I replace that rivet? Self tapper?
Am I grounded 'till the cover is secure?

Kind regards

Wynand

Hi Wynand
Opend up the cover on an old carb did not see any ports so it looks like a decorative part.

I still don't know what you are on about, you ordered a Jabi 6 months ago, so yeah? You cant get a Jabi built in 6 months, why are you unhappy?

Hallo dupwillie

Mine took 8 months. And it was worth the wait! 8)

I spend some quality time at the factory with Len and Les, and let me assure you that I have a good background in the vehicle / equipment manufacturing industry, and I could then understand and support Len's quality control philosophy, in that he clearly states that he would rather build less planes that are well put together, than pump out planes that might fall apart.

The factory only produces one plane a week, so understandably, there will be a waiting list.

Very soon, I will order my next new Jabi, and I will be prepared for it.

Interestingly, I was offered a huge premium by an impatient customer for my plane, and I politely turned him down

Consider it like a pregnancy, no matter how badly you want a baby, the minimum waiting period is 9 months!

It is not my job to look how they build a Jabiru.I already canceled my flights to George twice if they can just stick to their promises they made.It is better for them to tell the people 9 months pregnancy then there wont be all this problems. posting.php?mode=reply&f=59&t=45389#htt ... 59&t=45389#

Hey dupwillie

Have you ever been down to the factory? Have you ever been involved in the manufacturing or production line environment? If so you will understand.

The guys in George are professionals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Les will try her best to keep you happy with as close as possible to the truth information. She will not and cannot be held responsible for production delays due to otherr factors. And after all she is an old softy  , she really does not like to upset people. If she could she will jump in and help build the planes!

As for Len. He is a different kettle of fish. He is a bit of a perfectionist and it is his way or the highway or sometime NO way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now my friend I ask you this: Will you have someone like that looking after the build of you aircraft or one that says get it out no matter what, and cut corners if you need to.

Me too had to wait longer than originally quoted. Let me explain the scenario. I wanted some out of the ordinary stuff fitted to my plane. Due to the "experimental" nature of my fitment it took longer and I caused some other planes to be delayed. NEVER once did I hear any grumbles from Len or blaming this, that or the other. He did however ground my plane from further testing due unsatisfactory performance of some components. He wanted it sorted out BEFORE he would let the plane go. Me too paid upfront and got upset that he would not release MY plane to me. I felt I would sort it out myself. No go, he said it yours once I am happy. Today me very glad. I eventually received my plane a bit to late but are enjoying it thoroughly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! because I trust it. And I trust it because Len said he is happy with it.

Some other factors, but this is just my opinion and not facts!!!!
With the downturn in the economics I am sure for some time there must have been a decrease in orders on their side as well. Especially after the J430 graze some time back. I will try and post a photo I took at the factory with J430 chicks as Les called them busy hatching hanging from the roof of the entire factory with a pulley system to lower and hoist up and down as were needed to, to do work on them. Now if one has a sudden down turn on a busy production line you inevitably are going to loose some skilled people. Once it pics up again it is not a switch you turn on again. The work force needs to be trained up again and the machine oiled to perform as it once had without drop in quality. I have no doubt that if Len is to choose between quantity and quality, his choice will be quality!!!!!!

OK this may sound stupid but here goes:

Be glad about the waiting list. It just compliments your choice in aircraft. It shows that it IS that popular and safe. How many other manufacturers have waiting list at the current moment? I mean lets face it there is another graze coming with the little J120. Its a superb A/C for one hell of a price

Stick it out, I promise you, you will not be disappointed by the George people or your A/C even if you are a little frustrated currently. We do not know all the facts- just saying!

Regards,

Or like some will say my 2c worth!
