RV's, an Introduction.

Unread post by Dirk »

I was very pleased to see RobK at Kitty Hawk today.

He loved his Samba XL when he started out flying - but he soon decided that it is not worth while to fly a Samba at all if you can fly a Cirus!

So of he went and got a Cirrus.

He could not get it over his heart to sell the Samba - so he hang on to it for a while.

Then he got an even better Cirrus if I am not mistaken.

And then he had a flip in a RV7.

Now as you may well know, they say: Do not- Do not go for a flip in a RV, because you are going to buy one.

And there and then the decision was made - and now Rob is the proud, very very proud owner, of an RV7, a yellow one with a prop that you will druil al over!

So now he only flies the Cirrus when he absolutely have to.

Imagine that.

(To avoid confusion - may I add - this is all tongue in Cheek, but yes - Rob has bought an RV7)

My point is, I am now absolutely convinced that the RV7 must be an astonishing aircraft, "a Samba XL on Steroids" as Rob puts it - humoring me.

So what I need now, is a thread on Avcom with the Title: RV's - An Introduction!

Hi Dirk, this is not surprising at all, and it really must be something for Rob to prefer his RV over his sleek Cirrus, it says a lot about RV's.

Well ever since i went for spin in Rudi's immaculate 7, i have been in dissaray. Every nite i am on Vanairforce.net, looking for that RV, scanning the posts, pics etc etc.i cannot believe it how much i am infactuated since that flight.
all know is that, one day i WILL OWN an RV, for certain.
so anyone want to trade a nice C172 for any RV :D :D

Hi Dirk,

Thanks very much for the kind words - your observations are very accurate

If its any indication of my love for the RV - I got back from Europe on Monday and have flown her every day except one since - just back from taking my daughter for a flip.

Regards and good luck with the Med guys,

Rob

I am not ready for an RV7 Rob, I can't do my Radio-Work that fast yet!

( If could afford it, that problem would disapear with the morning-mist!)

I would have to be content with the Samba for now.

But Rob - if you need company some weekend to kill the minutes on route somewhere - I would not hesitate!

I could offer you a flip in the Samba, but we both know you are going to fall asleep.

Please, please say something in defense of my Sweetheart!? :( :D :D :D

Not so much in defence of your sweetheart, but more in line with "affordability of RV". There is mass "panic" for lack of a better term in USA. Do yourself a favour and have a look at what RV's (and other aeries) are selling for over there. I recon you could get a "nice" example over here, for not much more than you can get for your Sweetheart in Ront terms. If R:$ improves even better. I have seen some "previously loved" RV's with 500 or less hrs on clock with all the necessary VFR instruments for under $50K, which translates to ±R700K @ ±R10:$1 landed all in (VAT can be claimed back in certain circumstances and thus would reduce cost by further 14%). Samba's are going for around R650K IIRC. Maybe something worth looking at, especially the older RV6/RV6A's with 0-320 and fixed pitch. 1 was sold on Barnstormers for $40K with just under 1000hrs on clock, leaving 1000hrs to fly. Even at 10 hrs a month that is almost 9 years fly time before O/H....

PS
EG like Rob's WILL cost significantly more though 8-[ 8-[ 8-[ 8-[
