Re: ZU CYB Project
Thanks guys !!!!!
I appreciate the comments.
Clive I Agree a spinner will finish it off nicely. Spoke to Kobus today to organize me one.
Finally managed to get out to the airfield late in the afternoon . Got 30litres and filled her up and then tried to start her. No luck. I then checked if i had spark and the spark was good. Opened the fuel lines and no fuel was getting through. I then stuck the pump on and blocked it with my finger to feel the pressure and then the fuel started to come through. I then reconnected everything and tried again and she started 1st time. It was great to hear the volla startup. I let her warm up a bit and then it started to rain and also my throttle linkage was not working very lekka, so I let her die and packed everything up. My battery was also not too kosher, so tomorrow is another day. I will go and get a new throttle cable in the morning and head back to the airfield and start her again and tincker until I am happy.
Cheers
Craig

Re: ZU CYB Project
Thanks JP
we are extremely proud of CYB aka (The Mule Horse)
Today she finally moved under her own power. I did a little taxi. The new engine has run in total about 15 minutes or so and she is sounding and feeling very smooth and powerful. Idle at 850 rpm and full static 3500 rpm . we have a Pprop on and she climbs 1 up about 1100ft /min and 2 up about 500 ft /min, she cruises about 95mph at 3200 rpm.
we also finished the radio wiring and the radio is working beautifully and we have no static interfearance what so ever. tomorrow I am ferrying DXU for Hans and Glen from secunda to rand. and then I will go to Tedders and fit my seats and finalize some other bits and pieces. Still need to fit new drive belt and track the prop and wire lock. Then inspect every last bolt and nut and mark. AP coming to sign off on monday. Then off to RAASA for new ATF and then she will be ready for test flight.
cheers

Thanks Ben
Looking forward to joining you in your jabbi for a breakfast run.
I have now fitted a spinner and she was signed out by AP on Sat. Going to RAASA for the new ATF and then she is ready for the test flight.

Re: ZU CYB Project
Very pleased to announce that CYB flew today.
We had some initial problems that we did not pick up in initial engine run ups. I aborted the initial take off as the engine suddenly went from max rpm 3600 rpom to 3000rpm.
we then did some longer engine run ups and discovered that after about 20 seconds the engine dropped to the lower rpm. we then diagnosed the problem being with the carb float bowl. we quickly stripped the carb, adjusted the float and put it back together again and Voilla. the engine now kept its RPM and max 3600 rpm.
It seems like when the carb went for an overhaul they did something to the float adjustment. lesson learn don't always trust the mechanics when you send something for a service.
2nd time round she flew beautifully with lots of power. I am now redesigning the bottom cowl to maximize the airflow through the oil cooler. So all in all it was a good day at the office. I will try and upload a video of me taking off which shaun taped with my video camera.
cheers
