I seem to remember that the investigation was hampered by large scale looting immediately after the accident. Horrendous.

[quote="Jsholliday"]Hi all good to find so much info on this crash I turned 3 just over a week after it happened , a life changing experience as my Dad was J P Holliday co pilot. I would like to find out as much as possible about what happened. Does anyone have any pictures? Was the documentary ever made and if so how can I get a copy.?[quote="paminnaar"]
Hi there I have read above by coincidence as I was doing research for In Memoriam article for local aviation magazine April 2018 edition to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the accident as my father was the flight engineer on board. I have press reports and aviation magazine comments including Flight International and SAA Pilots Association rejection of accident report etc.

Starship, is this still a work in progress or do you have an electronic copy that you wouldn't mind sharing?

Paminnaar, try google" EBay B707 crash report"
Scroll down to 707 ZS-EUW accident report Avcom. Open this page
Open Ebay.
Select original listing.
The entire report plus photos should appear.
Hope this helps.

One can not get away from the great scheme those aircraft were painted in ......
Dudu will earn a bronze statue in the terminal of ORT if she brought it back.........

On the night of the disaster, I was staying in the Hansa Hotel in Swakopmund. I woke up during the night to hear a woman screaming. Next morning we discovered that the owner of the hotel, Sebastian Rummel had been killed in the disaster and that it was his wife that I had heard screaming. A few days later, I had to fly from that same airport, also in a Boing 707, to Johannedburg to return to university. To this day, the image of the wreckage lives with me, especially the inflated life raft.
I have just returned form Namibia, having spent an evening at the Hansa Hotel and then, 2 days later flew from the smae airport in a Boeing 737 and recollected the incident vividly.
Happily, the Hansa Hotel remains absolutely excellent and should be the place of choice in Swakopmund for a visitor. The quality of food and service is among the best I have ever experienced.
Sadly the airport is badly managed and inefficient, the Captain had to get out of the cockpit and go into the airport to speed up the boarding procedure which took close to an hour.
