Seen any Pipstrel products in SA?

Unread post by flyboy2 »

Visit www.pipistrel.si ti view their extesive range of high-performance composite aircraft.
Most models use various Rotax motors, but of interest has been the electric and jet versions.

My 1st ever experience was on a newly imported Virus from the Slovenian factory into Eritrea.
There I converted it's owner onto type for his 1st taildragger.
We both enjoyed it's 1 in 30 glide-ratio in the up-draughts near Asmara.( prop feathered of course)

Tremendous publicity was following this event:- "Many long-distance flights have been performed with our aircraft,
among them the record-breaking flight around the world (Slovene pilot Matevž lenarčič was the first person ever
to complete such a flight in an ultralight aeroplane - Pipistrel Sinus)." Quoted from their URL.
( Maybe our SA Sling beat them to this claim! Don't you think so?)

What have South African owners and pilot's to say about this series?

all i can say is if u do have a sinus u got the best of both worlds
1. u can fly from point A-B against 108 knts and use 10 lit mogas 93 octane or u can soar engine off thermalling up to cloudbase or do ridgesoaring against the mountain slopes at VNE engine off. i have mine nearly 5 years and is as happy as a pig in poo.
and the new virus shortwing looks great and is fast 147 knt cruise
and with a high wing u always sit in the shade.i love them :D :D

Who's the SA agent for Pipistrel? How much does the Virus or Sinus go for? Not much data available, but I'm really liking that tail-dragger, the fuel consumption, the ability not to rely on AVGAS, the glide ratio, and the removable wings!
FAA ASEL ASES COM (IF), ex MCSA SAR member, flies out KBLM (Monmouth Exec, NJ - USA).

Hi. How many if these aeries Are flying in SA airspace?

What would be the cost approx for the Sinus aerie, standard configuration?

Do you need a PPL for this aerie?

Do we have somebody in SA that can do a conversion on this aerie?

Any flightschools using this aerie at the moment?

Thanks.
Regards, Riaan.

Hi Riaan
Join me for a flight I am in Witbank they sell for about R650k to R800k ex vat second hand ,mine is PPL register
But I believe it depend how you register it (motor glider ,NPL, or light aircraft) all up is 520kg plane weight is about 260kg cruise at 120 knt at 8.5l a hour glide ratio is 27 to 29 (nose wheel or tail dragger ) 100L fuel tank use mogas , can run on Avgas but Rotax will shorten your oil services with Avgas this plane really can cruise at 120knt with 65% power on a 80 Hp motor the only negative thing I have to say about this plane is the VNE is 122knt you can reach that very very fast no surprises on the stall this plane just want to fly ,there is one for sale in the Cape if you want I can put you in contact with the owner, you can do your conversion in SA :D Witbank to Margate under 3hours with 24l mogas :)
Nothing is good or bad but our thinking make it so
