You got it! No need to identify type of spin.
In a competition it gives you the advantage of a crisp on line recovery.
Good topic btw

Re: Inverted Stalls and Spins Reloaded
My first aerobatic experience was back in 2004 flying as passenger in Pitts S2B. I emediatly then received 8-10 hours aerobatic training. Let me just state that aerobatic training is not an aerobatic rating.
What aerobatic training taught me was spacial awareness. If I think back to my PPL training after the spin recovery one would have no sense of direction. In aerobatic spins you are able to do 1 turn, 1.5 turn and 1.25 turn spins. And if you fly competition aerobatics you loose 2 point starting at 10 if you over or under spin with more that 5 degrees. Then you have to draw a vertical line before horizontal flight.
Then for 5 years I was flying aeros My way before I was introduced to competition aerobatics. No relation between the two. While flying some aerobatic maneuvers it might appear impressive to the novice but to the trained aerobatic pilot it would be a joke.
So aerobatic flying will make a better pilot out of everyone as you will learn how to recover from abnormal flying situation. But more importantly to recognize them before they develop into dangerous situations.
Everybody spoke about the dangers of trying to recover from a flat spin. "It takes up to 2000' to recover from one". Now that I am able to do aggravated spins and flat spins and knowing what it takes to get a plane to flat spin it does not enter a flat spin by mistake, you have to fly it into a flat spin with ample time to recover before that flat spin develops.
Flying schools might be able to teach you the basic aerobatic maneuvers but they are not in a position to issue an aerobatic Rating. For a rating you have to be able to fly a sequence of maneuvers consisting of the basics like a spin, loop stall turn roll. This has to be done safely and with in a sertain minimum of high loss. There after you will be issued a rating and now are able to compete as solo pilot in aerobatic cometition in sportsman class or RV class.
